PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil -- First half strikes by Islam Slimani and Rafik Halliche helped Algeria to beat South Korea 4-2 on Sunday and become the first African team to score four goals in a World Cup match. Algeria led 3-0 at halftime, but withstood a stronger South Korean second half performance to claim its first World Cup win since 1982 and move into second place in Group H with one match left to play. Defeat for South Korea means it must now beat already-qualified Belgium to stand a chance of progressing to the knockout stages. Belgium leads with six points, Algeria now has three, while Russia and the South Koreans have one apiece. Slimani, one of three Algeria scorers who didnt start in the opening 2-1 loss to Belgium, broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with a fine solo goal, running onto a through ball between two defenders and then touching it past Jung Sung-ryong. Two minutes after the restart, defender Rafik Halliche powerfully headed in a corner after Jung came off his line but failed to make contact with the ball. Algeria added a third goal in the 38th when Abdelmoumene Djabou side-footed home from close to the penalty spot after Slimani pulled the ball back for him. South Korea didnt manage a shot on target all half, and struggled to break down Algerias attacks. However, it was far more positive after the break and pulled a goal back in the 48th minute when Son Heung-min shot through the legs of Rais Mbolhi. Hopes of a remarkable comeback were soon extinguished, though, when swift passing by Slimani put Yacini Brahimi through on a counter attack to make it 4-1. South Korea captain Koo Ja-cheol bundled the ball home on 72 minutes from close range, but Algerias defence held on to secure a historic victory. Cheap Air Force 1 Shoes Wholesale .J. Clint Dempsey, making his 100th international appearance, converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute for the U.S. and nearly tied it with a 20-yard shot off a post in the 56th minute. Avenging a March loss to the U.S. in a Colorado snow storm, Costa Rica ended the Americans team-record 12-game winning streak -- three short of the world mark set by Spain. "We were a little careless early in the game," Landon Donovan said after his first World Cup qualifier in 15 months. "Weve got to do better, clearly." The Ticos (4-1-2) moved into first place in the final round of qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean with 14 points, one ahead of the U.S. (4-2-1) with three games remaining. Honduras (3-3-1) is third with 10 points after a shocking 2-1 win at Mexico (1-2-5), which is fourth with eight points. Originally in the starting lineup, Bradley limped off the field during warmups after spraining his left ankle and was on crutches at the bench during the game. He was replaced by Cameron. "Micheal might be our most important player," Donovan said. Klinsmann said Bradleys ankle swelled and he will be send for tests after the times arrives in Columbus on Saturday. The game was played at 2-year-old Estadio Nacional, which has grass and a running track keeping fans far from the field. Previous qualifiers against the U.S. were at Estadio Saprissa, which has artificial turf and fans right near the sidelines. Costa Rica attacked from the start, and U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard had to sprawl 85 seconds in to deflect an open 8-yard shot from Bryan Ruiz. Campbells inswinging corner kick in the second minute went to the near post, where Acosta outjumped Dempsey and sent a header in off the head of DaMarcus Beasley, who wasnt tight enough on the post. It was the first international goal for the 30-year-old Acosta. Christian Bolanos then sent a long cross around Omar Gonzalez from Costa Ricas left flank, and Borges climbed over Beasley for a header to Howards right from 6 yards. Overwhelmed for the first 25 minutes, the U.S. started to gain some possession thanks to Donovan and Fabian Johnson. The penalty kick came when Graham Zusi played a long ball into the penalty area in the 41st minute, and goalkeeper Keylor Navas tripped up Johnson. Dempseys hard shot on the penalty kick went in off Navas body for his 36th international goal. The U.S. dominated possession in the second half as it searched for the tying goal. Altidore didnt start after injuring his right hamstring during training with Sunderland but entered in the 71st. 13 minutes after Eddie Johnson. Costa Rica scored the final goal after Altidores shot was blocked by the defence. Jose Miguel Cubero played a long ball to Campbell, who held off Besler and slotted the ball through Howard. "Unfortunately we fell asleep for one play and they got the goal," Donovan said. He earned his spot back on the team after a four-month sabbatical and a strong performance in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July. "Qualifying is all about ups and downs. Its never going to be easy. It never is. Every time is hard," Donovan said. "So weve got to get ourselves recovered physically, recovered mentally, and we have to beat Mexico now on Tuesday." MADRID, Spain -- Croatia midfielder Luka Modric reinforced his commitment to Real Madrid on Wednesday by signing a four-season contract extension through June 2018 with the club. Modric, who joined Madrid in August 2012 from English Premier League club Tottenham in a deal worth a reported 35 million euros ($44 million), won the UEFA Champions League with the La Liga club last season. The midfielder said joining Madrid had been like a dream come true. "With my renewal, my dream continues. Hopefully in the next few years we can win many more titles," he said. Madrid announced the extension, linking Modric to the club for the next four seasons, in a short statement. The 28-year-old has matured into a vital player for the European champions, where coach Carlo Ancelotti values his calm assurance and ability to feed attacking players with skilfully weighted passes from the midfield. He is also prized for his willingness to fall back and tackle in defence. Ancelotti looks likely to use Modric alongside Xabi Alonso and Toni Kroos. Modric played a key role in the 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Tuesday. "When I came here two years ago we won the Super Cup," he said. "It would be very important to start the season by winning another Super Cup." The second leg is to be played Friday at Atleticos Vicente Calderon Stadium. Nike Vapormax Uk . PETERSBURG, Fla. The 34-year-old Laval, Que. native has played six seasons with the Penguins.IRVING, Texas - For all the drama Dez Bryant created on and off the field early in his career, the Dallas receiver has never really had a public spat with a high-profile rival.Tony Romos top target isnt going to start with Richard Sherman, the talented Seattle cornerback whos been known to call out opposing receivers in pointed ways.I feel like at times he says what he feels and thats what he believes, said Bryant, who will try to match his second-longest touchdown streak at five games when the Cowboys (4-1) visit the Seahawks on Sunday. Theres really nothing wrong with what hes doing. He has issues with other players that are a conflict, but thats not here. We have respect.Days after dismissing Washingtons Pierre Garcon as a receiver who doesnt matter, Sherman had entirely different words for Bryant, one of the leagues most productive receivers since the Cowboys drafted him in 2010.The timing might have had a little to do with it because Bryant had just made one of the best catches of his career a€" a leaping, juggling 37-yarder on third down to set up the winning field goal in a 20-17 overtime victory against Houston. He made a fantastic play for them last week, which is indicative of what he can do when the ball is in the air, Sherman said. Hes definitely physical throughout the route. The Cowboys bring a surprising record and NFL rusher leader DeMarco Murray to Seattle (3-1), and the matchup of Murray against the leagues top rushing defence is certainly a talker. But Sherman against Bryant is probably the most intriguing one-on-one battle in the game. Its unlikely that Dallas will follow the lead of other teams and simply stay away from Sherman. The Cowboys have generally been better when theyve found ways to get the ball to Bryant, whose 44 scoring catches through 64 games are more than twice what Drrew Pearson had and 15 more than Michael Irvin at the same point in the careers of those No.dddddddddddd 88s for Dallas. They have really good players all across their defence, so I think if you got into that game with these guys you wouldnt really snap the ball, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. Theyre awfully good. Just put the tape on. But we have to do what we do.Even if Sherman took aim at Bryant the way he did with San Franciscos Michael Crabtree, its unlikely he would get much of a response from Bryant. While the fifth-year receiver had a petty sideline moment as recently as last season when he went to the locker room before the clock expired in a loss to Green Bay, he usually dances away from headline-grabbing sound bites. He wouldnt oblige reporters Thursday when asked if he considered himself the best, and after Garrett playfully pushed him away from the conversation, he came back for one more answer a€" and a politically correct one at that. But Bryant isnt naive enough to believe all the niceties will extend into the game.Im pretty sure hes going to say something to me, said Bryant, who said he chatted with Sherman and exchanged phone numbers at an event during the off-season. Im pretty sure Im going to say something to him. But at the end of the day, when its all said and done, were going to congratulate one another and talk and take pictures and get back on the plane and go our separate ways.NOTES: LB Bruce Carter is out for a second straight game because of a strained quadriceps, but LB Rolando McClain (groin) practiced Friday. BROOKLYN - The Toronto Raptors will try to capture their first best-of-seven series in franchise history and advance into the second round of the 2013-14 NBA Playoffs this evening when they face the Brooklyn Nets in Game 6 at Barclays Center. You can watch live coverage now on TSN, TSN GO and TSN Radio 1050. Also, TSN.ca will feature live streaming of the fan festivities at Maple Leaf Square and the post-game news conferences. The only time the Raptors advanced in the postseason came in 2001 when they defeated the New York Knicks, 3-2. They fell to the Philadelphia 76ers in seven games in the Eastern Conference semifinals that year, but since have failed to get out of the first round the three other times they made the playoffs. "I think we understand the intensity, weve learned that," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said after practice on Thursday. "Its hard in this league because so much is on the line. Were a young team. Its a positive for these guys to go through this." The Raptors took the series lead with a 115-113 home win on Wednesday. Any win is important, but Toronto watched a 26-point lead evaporate before finally securing the victory. "We did everything wrong you could think of in the fourth quarter," Casey said. "This was a learning experience." The Nets appeared ready to pack it in as they began the fourth quarter in a 91-69 hole and had Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett watching from the bench. Somehow, the combination of Joe Johnson, Deron Williams and an unproven bench totaled 44 points over the final 12 minutes to make things very interesting. Mirza Teletovic opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play on the ensuing possession to jump-start a 19-3 run that trimmed the Nets deficit to 97-91. Johnson knocked down an open 3-pointer with 3:19 left to pull even at 101-101, and it was knotted at 106-106 prior to a huge 3-pointer from Torontos Kyle Lowry. Two DeMar DeRozan free throws stretched the margin to 113-108, though Alan Andersons second four-point play of the quarter gave the Nets hope inside 10 seconds to play. After DeRozan sank two clutch free throws for a three-point game, the Raptors fouled Andray Blatche, who made his first free throw and grabbed his own rebound after intentionally missing the second. Blatches pass back to the top of the key, however, went over Williams head and into the backcourt for a violation, and the Raptors barely hung on for the win. "Hopefully, this put us on high alert," said Casey. Lowry led the way with 36 points behind six 3-pointers, including the gigantic go-ahead one with 1:04 remaining. DeRozan added 23 points and Jonas Valanciunas chipped in with 16 for Toronto, Johnson paced Brooklyn with 30 points, Teletovic added 17 off the bench while Williams and Anderson each netted 13 in the setback. "The guys fought," Nets head coach Jason Kidd said. "They put us in a position to win on the road, but we didnt do the little things." If the Nets can force Game 7, it will be on Sunday at the Air Canada Centre. If Toronto prevails on Friday, the Raptors will meet the Miami Heat in the second round. Cheap Air Max Sale . After giving up on two other sports, she found something she liked. On Saturday, she reached her sports highest honour, with her induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Davenport spent 98 weeks ranked No. 1. She won the 1998 U.S. Open, 1999 Wimbledon, 2000 Australian Open and 1996 Olympic gold medal to go with three major doubles titles. She finished the end of four years ranked No. 1. Chris Evert was among those at the ceremony. The tennis great described Davenports game as "so loud, so strong and aggressive." Davenport entered the hall with five-time Paralympic medallist Chantal Vandierendonck in the recent player category, coach Nick Bollettieri, executive Jane Brown Grimes, and broadcaster John Barrett in the contributor category. "Hitting the ball and making contact was always something that came very natural to me," Davenport said. "It was a blessing. It happened at a very young age. I didnt realize that it was that hard to do and I had a special talent, and it took a long time to put that altogether. "Thats what made it so fun to me, the sound, and what I could do witth the shots, and see how hard I could hit them.dddddddddddd Everything else about the game took work and was a struggle, but that was something and that was the reason why I fell in love with it." She was presented by friend and former ATP pro Justin Gimelstob, who played against her at a clinic. The 82-year old Bollettieri has coached 10 players to the No. 1 ranking, including Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Monica Seles and Boris Becker. In 1978, he founded the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, the first full-time tennis boarding school in the U.S. "The older you get, its not the (age), but what you have here," he said, touching his chest near his heart. Vandierendonck was a top Dutch player before she was injured in a car accident in 1983. Shes the first woman wheelchair player inducted. Brown Grimes is a former managing director of the Womens Professional Tennis Council (now known as the WTA Board), president of the U.S. Tennis Association, and president of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Barrett was the "Voice of Wimbledon" on the BBC from 1971-2006. His wife, former top-ranked player Angela Mortimer Barrett, was inducted into the hall in 1993. HOUSTON -- Jadeveon Clowney is already showing how dominant he can be in the NFL. The top overall pick in the draft made big hits behind the line on consecutive plays and Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a touchdown pass to DeVier Posey in the Texans 32-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday night. Houston selected Clowney out of South Carolina to form a powerful 1-2 pass-rushing attack with J.J. Watt. Watt sat out Saturdays game and Clowney seized the defensive spotlight on Atlantas second series. He burst through the line untouched and crashed into Antone Smith almost the second the running back took a handoff from Matt Ryan. On the next snap, Clowney whipped around left tackle Sam Baker and smacked down Ryan for a 7-yard loss. "Its work," Clowney said. "You just got to work and get after the guys, go hard and hope for something good. You just have to do your job." Jonathan Grimes returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and Andre Hal returned an interception 64 yards for another score for the Texans (1-1), who were significantly better than they were in a 32-0 loss to Arizona last week. Clowney set the tone for the turnaround performance. "When a guy makes a defensive play thats a big hit, it really lights up your sideline," Texans coach Bill OBrien said. The Falcons (1-1), meanwhile, have plenty to fix and may have taken a huge blow on their offensive line. Baker left on a cart in the second quarter with a right knee injury and Atlanta coach Mike Smith didnt know the severity after Saturdays game. Baker started 16 games in 2012, but played in just four games last season because of a left knee injury that required surgery in November. Ryan went 3 for 7 in a quarter and a half of work and wide receiver Julio Jones caught two passes in his first live-game action since he broke his right foot in Week 5 last season. The Falcons finished with 248 yards and 19 first downs. "We just had a few plays here and there that kind of got off schedule, and when you do that against a good defence its tough to overcome those mistakes," Ryan said. "We had opportunities to make plays, we just didnt make them." Fitzpatrick completed 9 of 12 passes for the Texans, guiding the offence much more smoothly than he did against the Cardinals. OBrien said Fitzpatricks performance carried over from a strong week at practice. "Hes getting more and more comfortable with the system and he went out there and played a good game for our team," OBrien said. He went 3 for 5 and had a 10-yard scramble on Houstons initial scoring drive and rookie Alfred Blue, a sixth-round pick from LSU, finished it with runs of 10, 3 and 1 yard to put the Texans in front. Sean Renfree replaced Ryan with 6:20 left in the first half and led the Falcons on an 11-play, 66-yard touchdown drive. Renfree, competing with T.J. Yates for the backup job behind Ryan, found Devin Hester on a 12-yard pass with 1:32 left for the tying score. Rookie Tom Savage played one series before Fitzpatrick returned to lead the Texans in the final 90 seconds before halftime. Fitzpatrick had a 15-yard scramble and then connected with Keshawn Martin for a 31-yard gain to the Falcons 15. A Falcons penalty moved the ball to the Atlanta 8, and Fitzpatrick avoided the rush to his right before finding Posey in the back of the end zone with 19 seconds left. Case Keenum, competing with Savage for the backup role behind Fitzpatrick, started the second half for the Texans and guided a drive to the Atlanta 22 before Kemal Ishmael intercepted him near the goal line. Houstons special teams and defence took over from there. Anthony Denham blocked Matt Boshers punt from the end zone, and Grimes scooped up the loose ball and ran 17 yards for a score. Yates played the fourth quarter under constant pressure, and tried a futile tackle attempt on Hals return. Matt Bullough also intercepted Yates, setting up a 33-yard field goal by Chris Boswell. Notes: Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and Brian Cushing were among the inactive players for Houston. ... Second-round draft pick Xavier Sua-Filo started at right guard for the Texans. Sua-Filo has also been practicing at left tackle and working on centre-quarterback exchanges in practice. ... Justin Tuggle started for Cushing and made two tackles against his fathers old team. Jessie Tuggle, a three-time All-Pro, played for the Falcons from 1987-2000. SEATTLE -- Felix Hernandez took a shutout into the eighth inning, Mike Zunino and Brad Miller both homered and the Seattle Mariners held on for a 6-4 win over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. Hernandez (3-0) struck out 11 and shut down Oakland for the second time in a week, becoming the first Mariners pitcher to win three times in the first nine games of a season. With the usual "Kings Court" for Hernandez home starts expanded to a "Supreme Court" encompassing the entire stadium with yellow shirts and "K" cards, Hernandez gave up four hits in the 28th double-digit strikeout game of his career. Zunino chased starter Tommy Milone (0-1) with a two-run shot in the sixth. Miller followed two batters later with a solo homer to centre field with the wind blowing in. Hernandez was charged with two runs and walked none. He has 30 strikeouts against two walks in his three starts. Hernandezs first home start of 2014 was his best performance in the young season. All three of Oaklands four hits off Hernandez came in the span of five batters in the fourth and fifth. Jed Lowries one-out single in the fourth was Oaklands first hit, and Josh Donaldson followed with an infield single. Hernandez pitched out of the jam with strikeouts of Brandon Moss and Yoenis Cespedes. Alberto Callaspo doubled to lead off the fifth and advanced to third on Robinson Canos two-out error at second base. Hernandez struck out Sam Fuld looking to end the inning. Hernandez struck out the side in the seventh, but Daric Barton was hit on the foot by a curveball and Eric Sogard singled to open the eighth. That was it for Hernandez, and Seattles bullpen was shaky. Lucas Luetge walked his only batter. Danny Farquhar walked Lowrie on a 3-2 pitch to score Barton. Brandon Moss added a broken-bat single off Charlie Furbush for the second run charged to Hernandez, and Cespedes beat out a potential double play to score another. Furbush threw a wild pitch that Fuld scored on to cut the deficit to 6-4, but Callaspo popped out to end the rally. Fernando Rodney pitched the ninth for his third save. The Mariners needed only three pitches to get to Milone, who was making his first start of the season after postponements caused his turn to be skipped. Abraham Almonte doubled on the first pitch of the game, Miller followed with a bunt single and Canos infield hit gave Seattle a 1-0 lead. Seattle appeared to add another in the fourth when Kyle Seager was ruled to have hit a solo homer down the right field line. The play was reviewed by umpires and the ball was called foul. But Seattle scored twice in the inning when Donaldson and Lowrie committed two-out errors after Dustin Ackleys double. Milone gave up 10 hits and three earned runs in his season debut. NOTES: Oakland OF Coco Crisp did not start for the fourth straight game due to a sore wrist. He pinch-hit in the ninth. ... The As will likely activate OF Craig Gentry from the disabled list Saturday, manager Bob Melvin said. ... Ackley became the first Seattle batter with three hits in a game this season. ... Seattle is still unsure of its starter for Tuesday in Texas. Manager Lloyd McClendon expected a decision before Saturdays game. Likely options are RHP Blake Beavan coming up from Triple-A or RHP Taijuan Walker being activated from the DL. Air Jordan 13 Retro Uk . I want to contribute, to help get wins, and I think that was a big relief for me tonight.Linemate Joe Colborne helped set up both of Monahans goals.Sooner or later, a guy with that skill is going to break out, said Colborne, who leads the Flames with eight points -- all assists -- through nine games. I was just happy I was able to be a part of it. All the boys on the ice and on the bench were happy for him. Right now, If I was a fantasy hockey player, Id have him in the lineup for the next little while. Hes going to get hot.Jiri Hudler, the third member of the line, also had two assists for the Flames (5-3-1). Calgary coach Bob Hartley put the line together for the first time this season and the move paid off.Thats the line that I saw last year, Hartley said. Thats the kind of performance that they were giving us and certainly thats the kind of performance that we need from them.Goalie Jonas Hiller stopped all 16 shots he faced for his third straight win and first shutout of the season in front of 19,289 fans at the Scotiabank Saddledome. We spent most of the time in their zone so it was definitely not as tiring as other games Ive played this year, said Hiller, who has stopped 99 of 101 shots he has faced over his past three games. You could see out there that everybody was willing to compete and to sacrifice, even blocking shots until the end. Even in the third when we were up 5-0, guys were still working hard and then blocking shots. Thats obviously a nice feeling.Matt Stajan and Lance Bouma also scored their first goals of the season for the Flames, who bounced back from a 2-1 overtime loss they suffered at home to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.Dennis Wideman also scored for Calgary, while Kris Russell chipped in with two assists.Although the Hurricanes (0-4-2) have yet to win this season, this is the first time theyve been blown out. Three of their other losses were by a one-goal margin, while the other two were by two goals, including aa 3-1 road loss to the Winnipeg Jets two nights earlier.ddddddddddddIt got away from us, said Carolina coach Bill Peters. We got scored on the first shift of the second (period). I dont know what it was, but we didnt respond properly there. Too many freebies. Too many easy goals. Too much room. Too much time and space. Its not the way weve played, so its disappointing.Playing in just his third game of the season, Carolina goalie Cam Ward finished with 19 saves in a losing cause.Ward turned aside a pair of point shots off the stick of Russell during a Calgary power play in the first period before standing his ground to stop a shot from the slot by forward Brandon Bollig. At the other end of the ice, Hiller made a great glove grab to deny Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinners break-away attempt.Wideman opened the scoring when he blasted a point shot past Ward, who was screened by Glencross on the play, to give the Flames a 1-0 lead at 18:18 of the first.Calgary continued that momentum after the break as Stajan one-timed a pass from Byron past Ward just 32 seconds into the second period.Monahan then put the Flames up 3-0 at 4:14 of the second when he was the recipient of a nice back-door pass from linemate Jiri Hudler for an easy tap-in goal. When he has the puck, youve got to expect to get it back, Monahan said. I was ready for it. I thought it would be coming and it was right on my tape.Alexander Semin had Carolinas best chance to score in the second with just over eight minutes left in the period, but Hiller made a nice kick save with his left leg to keep the Hurricanes off the board.Monahan counted his second of the game at 3:23 of the third when he settled a bouncing puck in the slot before backhanding a shot past Ward.Less than two minutes later, Bouma drove hard to the net and tapped a pass from Josh Jooris into the Carolina net to put Calgary up 5-0.Notes: The Flames paid tribute to the tragic events in Ottawa and Quebec by having everyone observe a moment of silence before George Canyon sang O Canada. ... Since sitting out Calgarys 5-2 road win over the Edmonton Oilers as a healthy scratch, Wideman has scored four goals and added one assist in seven games. Wideman has scored four goals in his past five games and all of the goals have been the first goal of the game for the Flames. ... Hudlers assist on Monahans goal in the second period was the 300th point of his NHL career in his 534th game. He added another assist on Monahans second goal. LONG BEACH, Calif. - Tempers flared all around the streets of Long Beach, where drivers declared friendships over after a surprisingly physical race. Simon Pagenaud refused to accept a post-race apology from Will Power, and Justin Wilson was furious with Scott Dixon. James Hinchcliffe tried to be diplomatic but failed to hide his displeasure with teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay. The one team smiling at the end of Sundays race? Ed Carpenter Racing, which got an unexpected victory from Mike Conway. Conway, hired this year when team owner and oval specialist Carpenter decided to get out of the car on road and street courses, started 17th and overcame an early broken wing to win the Toyota Grand Prix for the second time in his career. The British driver was chasing Dixon over the final few laps, then got the lead when Dixon stopped for fuel two laps from the finish. "I didnt know whether he had the fuel to finish or not," Conway said. "The guys were telling me he was saving fuel and they werent sure that he could make it, but at the same time, you dont want to rely on that. I was kind of trying to make things happen and maybe get by him. But when I saw him pull in I was like, OK, the guys are right and just have to bring it home. "Second would have been good, but this is awesome." The race was shaping up to be a Hunter-Reay rout until he triggered a seven-car accident 24 laps from the finish. Hunter-Reay started from the pole and led 51 laps, and had Andretti Autosport teammate Hinchcliffe right behind him when the race took a bizarre turn. Josef Newgarden had raced off pit road in a successful bid to get back on the track in front of Hunter-Reay and Hinchcliffe, who had swept the front row in qualifying for Andretti. But on cold tires, Newgarden wasnt going to be able to hold off Hunter-Reay for long. Only Hunter-Reay decided not to wait and tried to pass Newgarden as they entered a tight Turn 4. The two cars collided, Newgarden was sent into the wall and Hunter-Reay bounced into Castroneves path. Hinchcliffe ran into the back of Newgarden -- Will Power and Conway successfully squeezed through the wreckage -- but three more cars were collected as they all ran into the crashed cars long after the accident began. Newgarden was polite when he returned to his pit stand. "I was on cold tires, its very hard to control the car, I knew Hunter-Reay was on hot, and at some point he was probably going to get me," Newgarden said. "But I didnt expect anyone to come up on the inside of four. Theres so little room there, you normally cant make a pass, even if something like that is going on ... the next thing I knew I was in the wall and I was just getting plowed into by everyone. "That shouldnt happen up front. It really shouldnt. You shouldnt have incidents like that when you are running up front." Team owner Sarah Fisher was composed when asked about the incident on television, but let her true feelings be known on Twitter shortly after: "It was our race to win and we got robbed by immaturity. Period," she posted. Michael Andretti seemed shell-shocked at two of his cars being wrecked, "you need to be a little more patient," he said, and Hinchcliffe didnt mince words for his teammate. "At the end of the day, patience is a virtue and someone wasnt very virtuous today. It was a rookie move," said Hinchcliffe, who suffered a sprained left thumb and will need to be re-examined before hes cleared to drive again. Hunter-Reay didnt exactly accept responsibility. "I went for it. I could have waited a little bit later, maybe thats my fault," he said. "Its down to me to make the pass, I guess, Im not sure. A lot of people say its my fault. I made the decision at that split second when he had some wheel spin to go for it, thats the type of driver I am. I go for it. "You dont know how down I am. Just very, very disappointed. Ill look at it again, but a racing driver, when hes in the moment and he sees a chance to go for it, I went for it because I want to win the race." The accident opened the door for Dixon to score his first career win at Long Beach, until he stopped for fuel as a precaution. "The last thing I wanted to do was run out of gas in front of the whole field and cause a big accident," Dixon said. He had to mend fences with Wilson, who was enraged over contact with Dixon "that is so deliberate and blatant," and angry IndyCar did not penalize Dixon. Pagenaud also was furious with Power, refusing to accept his apology, and angry that IndyCar did not penalize Power for contact between the two. "I think we had a car to win and he pretty much ruined our race, our chance," said Pagenaud, who did not accept an apology from Power. "We were friends until now. We wont be going on vacation together, I guess." Power insisted he thought Pagenaud had an issue with his car. "I honestly thought he had a problem because he went back really slowly and so I went up his inside and then realized he was just going to turn and try to back out. I got him. My bad," Power said. "I feel bad. I dont like to be raced like that and Im surprised I didnt get a penalty. But I honestly thought he had a flat tire or something because he was really slow and I didnt understand why." Pagenaud, who rallied to finish fifth, dismissed Powers claim. "Racing, green flag, and I slowed down? Good for him," Pagenaud said. Power finished second -- his fourth consecutive race dating to last season that hes finished either first or second. Rookie Carlos Munoz finished third and Juan Pablo Montoya was fourth for his best showing -- in a test, practice or qualifying session -- in his return after seven seasons in NASCAR. Montoya climbed to fourth early in the race, but a penalty for pitting when pit lane was closed dropped him to 20th and he had to drive his way back. "I could have been a little more aggressive at the end, but I really wanted to make sure we didnt get in any trouble and got a decent finish," Montoya said. Buy Air Max 95 NZ Remembrance Day 2014 is a special one, as this year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. Thousands of Canadians fought and died in the Great War. They were farmers, teachers, business people, lawyers and athletes. One athlete in particular was a well-known pro hockey player from Ottawa - the man they called One-Eyed Frank McGee. Francis Clarence McGee was the centrepiece of the Ottawa Silver Seven's dominant Stanley Cup defence from 1903 to 1905. After a successful hockey career, McGee answered the call for his country and served Canada in the First World War from 1914 to 1916. McGee earned the nickname 'one-eye' after he lost the sight of his left eye while playing for the Canadian Pacific Railway team in 1900 after being struck by a puck. Despite his injury, McGee joined the Ottawa Hockey Club in January of 1903. Despite his size just five-foot-six - McGee made an instant impact for Ottawa, scoring two goals in 7-1 rout of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association. In March of 1903, he helped Ottawa defeat the Montreal Victorias to capture the Stanley Cup. Weeks later, Ottawa completed their first successful defence of the Stanley Cup with a victory over the Rat Portage Thistles. McGee's Ottawa team became known as the Silver Seven and McGee remained a staple of the team's dominant offence. In February of 1904, they won the Stanley Cup a Challenge Cup which teams held as long as they successfully defended it against the Toronto Marlboros. McGee furthered his reputation as a big-game player with five goals in the second game of the series. A month later, he had another five-goal game as the Silver Seven thwarted Brandon, Manitoba's bid for the championship. In 1905, McGee scored 17 goals in six games as the Silver Seven won the Federal Amateur Hockey League Championship. But it was in January of 1905 that McGee put together his most legendary performance. McGee scored a Stanley Cup record 14 goals in the second game of the Silver Seven's famed one-sided series against tthe Dawson City Nuggets.dddddddddddd Eight of his 14 goals came consecutively in less than nine minutes of action as the Silver Seven dominated with a 23-2 victory - the most lopsided game in Stanley Cup history. McGee capped an already successful 1905 by scoring the winning in the deciding game of a three-game series against Rat Portage. More impressively, 'one-eye' played the game with a broken wrist. McGee's 1906 season saw him score 28 goals in just seven regular season games. The Silver Seven successfully defended the Stanley Cup twice more in February and March with a two-game sweeps of Queen's University and Smith Falls and McGee recorded 15 goals in those four games. Just as the Silver Seven's historic run as champions ended, so did McGee's career. He retired prior to the 1907 season with 135 career goals in just 45 games. In 1914, McGee and his 43rd Regiment was mobilized. Few knew how McGee was even allowed to join the military without his sight in one eye. McGee departed Canada for England on May 6, 1915 and didnt shy away from the front lines. Even after being wounded in Belgium in December of 1915, McGee declined the option of a taking a desk job after a seven month recovery, opting instead to return to his regiment. According to The Ottawa Citizen, he told his brother D'Arcy in a letter that his desire was to be a part of his battalion for the big push. He was killed twelve days after writing that letter on Sept. 16, 1916 - at age 34 - while fighting in the Battle of Flers-Courcelette during the Somme Offensive. His body was never recovered. But on this day, the memory of McGees legacy remains strong. Remembered for his prolific scoring on the ice, he was among the Hockey Hall of Fame's 14 inaugural inductees in 1945. And he was also among the 24,029 casualties Canada suffered in the Battle of the Somme. Today, McGee is one of 11,169 unfound Canadian First World War causalities commemorated at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in Pas-de-Calais, France. Lest we forget. TORONTO - Forgive Max Pentecost if his attentions divided this weekend. The Blue Jays second pick in the first round (11th overall) is competing in this weekends NCAA super regional for his school, Kennesaw State, against the Louisville Cardinals. All the while, he could be days or weeks away from signing a multi-million dollar contract to turn professional and enter Torontos organization. Pentecosts Owls were down a game in a best-of-three heading into action on Saturday night. Hes got business to take care of first but with a draft slot value at just under $2.9-million, the potential is there to strike it rich. Still, when you hear him speak in his southern drawl, its a reminder that the 21-year-old, like everyone his age, is in many ways still a kid. "I cant wait to get out there and go play," said Pentecost. "Theres going to be one day where Im going to have to clean out my locker and putter around home just because my parents had to move me out of my apartment while we were coming to the super regionals." Selected in the seventh round of the 2011 draft by the Texas Rangers, Pentecost chose not to sign when the Rangers included a 90-day clause in the contract offer, a shield against a recurring injury he suffered in high school. In Pentecosts sophomore year at Winder-Barrow High School near Atlanta, he suffered a stress fracture of his olecranon, which is the bony point of the elbow. He was prescribed rest and rehabilitation. It didnt work and the injury recurred during his junior year. Another season of rest and rehab didnt work and Pentecost suffered the injury a third time in his senior year. He had surgery, two screws were implanted, and there hasnt been an issue since. "I looked at it as I can go to college, work on a degree and if anything I can show them I can play three or four years without the injury recurring," said Pentecost. "I can play healthy and thankfully I was blessed enough to have a good career and improve my stock." His faith in himself has been rewarded. Pentecost has improved as a hitter in each of his three years at Kennesaw State, working a slash line of .423/.483/.631 this season. "I feel that Im more of a hit for average, Im more of a gap to gap, line drive kind of guy," said Pentecost. "I have power but Im not known as a power hitter. You know, it just kind of happens. I feel like I have pretty decent speed for baserunning, for stealing bags. I usually have a pretty good approach, hit offspeed well."Growing up in Georgia, Pentecost admitted he doesnt know much about the city of Toronto. He joked about his time in the Cape Cod League, the collegiate summer circuit in Massachusetts, where he picked up French-language radio stations beaming out of Quebec. It was his time in "The Cape," as its known, when he hit .346/.424/.538 with seven home runs for the Bourne Braves, that Pentecost feels he made his name. "I think thats the only reason I am where I am today," said Pentecost. "Going up there, nobody really knew who I was or had never even heard of Kennesaw State. So going up there I felt like I was really going to have to prove myself and prove my game just to prove who I am. I made a lot of changes to my game, really played hard, enjoyed it. The overall experience was, I mean, it was just a blast." Pentecost cites Jason Kendall and, more recently, Buster Posey as players hes looked up to. He considers himself a versatile athlete; if the catching thing doesnt work out, he could play a corner infield position or in the outfield. First things first, Pentecosts got a game to win on Saturday night. Hell worry about becoming a millionaire later, although getting the draft out of the way will help him relax. "Its a huge weight off my shoulders," he said. SANTOS UPDATE Sergio Santos will throw a bullpen session in Toronto on Sunday. If all goes well, hell report to Single-A Dunedin on Monday. The plan, Santos says, is to throw an inning each on Tuesday and Thursday. Hes hopeful of being activated off the disabled list late next week and of meeting the team in Baltimore. Masahiro Tanaka has touched down in the United States and the courting of the Rakuten Golden Eagles stud pitcher has begun in earnest by a bevy of MLB teams interested in the Japanese ace.BALTIMORE -- In case it wasnt evident before opening day, we now know why the Baltimore Orioles added another slugger to a team that led the major leagues in home runs last season. Nelson Cruz celebrated his Orioles debut by hitting a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning, and Baltimore beat Jon Lester and the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox 2-1 Monday. Signed as a free agent in February, Cruz lined a solo shot into the left field seats to put the Orioles ahead. He hit 27 homers last year with Texas during a season marred by a 50-game suspension from Major League Baseball in the Biogenesis drug scandal. Cruz joins a batting order that features Chris Davis, who led the majors in 2013 with 53 homers and 138 RBIs. Davis went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts as the cleanup hitter, but it didnt matter because the guy in the 5-hole picked up the slack. "It takes some of the pressure off everybody in the lineup knowing that you can pass the baton and the next guy can pick it up," Davis said. "We have to know as hitters going into the game that we can be patient, we can wait for our pitch, knowing that the guy behind us can pick us up." Cruz, meanwhile, couldnt have been more delighted. Not only did the Orioles provide him with a fresh start, but the fans chanted "Cruuuuuze!" every time his name was announced. "It was really neat, it was special," he said. "I made the right call to come and be part of this organization, be part of this town." Cruz wasnt the only player to enjoy a successful start with his new team. After missing two seasons recovering from knee surgery, Boston centre fielder Grady Sizemore marked his return from a 922-day absence with a second-inning single for his first hit since September 2011. The three-time All-Star for Cleveland later hit his first home run since July 15, 2011, which also came at Camden Yards. "Today was very exciting," Sizemore said. "I couldnt wait to get to the ballpark." Zach Britton (1-0) got the win with two scoreless innings of relief and Tommy Hunter got three outs for the save. Hunter earned the job as closer this spring after the Orioles dealt away Jim Johnson during the off-season. The Red Sox got two on with one out in the ninth before World Series MVP David Ortiz hit a flyball and Jackie Bradley Jr. took a called third strike. "Its life in baseball," Hunter said. "Youve got to earn everything you get. Onee-run game to start the season off against the defending world champs.dddddddddddd" Starting on the road for the fourth year in a row, the Red Sox got nine hits but stranded 12 and went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position. "We had a lot of opportunities, we had a lot of guys on," second baseman Dustin Pedroia said. "We just hit the ball right at people. It was one of those deals where we couldnt find a way to push runs across." Making his fourth straight opening day start for Boston, Lester (0-1) gave up two runs, six hits and a walk in seven innings. He struck out eight. Orioles starter Chris Tillman allowed one run, seven hits and a walk in five innings. The right-hander went 3-1 against Boston last year, but in this one he needed 104 pitches to get 15 outs. Britton gave up a one-out double to Xander Bogaerts in the sixth and got three straight outs in the seventh, the only time all day that Boston went down in order. Evan Meek walked two in the eighth before Brian Matusz retired A.J. Pierzynski on a comebacker. Gametime temperature was announced at 60 degrees, but a stiff wind chilled many in the crowd of 46,685 -- the 23rd consecutive opening day sellout at Camden Yards. Hopeful that the off-season acquisitions of Cruz and right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez will enable Baltimore to return to the playoffs after missing out last year, Orioles fans were out in force. Until recently, games against Boston often drew as many Red Sox backers as those rooting for the home team. "Our crowd was legit," Hunter said. "That was awesome. I hope they come out like that every game for 80 more here." The Orioles used a walk, a single by Matt Wieters and a double-play grounder to take a 1-0 lead in the second. The Red Sox put runners at second and third with two outs in the third before Tillman struck out Mike Carp. In the fourth, Sizemore hit a 3-1 pitch over the right-field wall. NOTES: Dustin Pedroia got Bostons first hit of the season, a one-out single in the first inning, to extend his hitting streak on opening day to eight games. ... After taking Tuesday off, the teams meet Wednesday night. John Lackey (13-5 lifetime against Baltimore) faces Jimenez in his Orioles debut. ... The Red Sox put RF Shane Victorino (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled Bradley. ... PHILADELPHIA -- Characterizing Day 2 of the NHL draft as "a good day," Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving pronounced himself "happy and excited" about the weekends transactions. Among the teams moves was trading one of the teams two third round picks, no. 83 overall, to the Chicago Blackhawks for Brandon Bollig, a six-foot-two, 223-pound left-winger who had seven goals, seven assists, and 92 penalty minutes in 82 games last season. "Weve talked a little bit about adding some size to our lineup," said Treliving, "I think Brandons a guy that in a situation where hes maybe given a little bit more responsibility, a little bit more opportunity, I think theres still more growth to his game. "Weve got some young people coming and we want to make sure theyre surrounded by the right people. Hes won a Stanley Cup." Chicago GM Stan Bowman said the Blackhawks would miss Bolligs presence, but that they had to look to the future. "Its always tough when you trade a player whos been part of your group, a regular player for you," said Bowman. "But weve got to look at doing some things like that to prepare for next year." Chicago needed to make some moves to get under the salary cap, which is $69 million for the 2014-2015 season. The Flames took six-foot-six right-winger Hunter Smith from the OHLs Oshawa Generals with the 54th overall pick and six-foot-one defenceman Brandon Hickey from the AJHL in round three. The teams late-round picks were Swedens Adam Ollas Mattsson, a six-foot-four 209-pound blue-liner and six-foot-three, 216-pound Austin Carroll of the WHLs Victoria Royals. "Its not about just getting big," said Treliving. "All these guys bring a little something to the table. Hunter Smith is a guy that took a huge step this year, but hes still a young guy thats going to fill out." Smith was excited to play for a Flames franchise thats putting an emphasis on physical play. "I think Calgary is a great fit for me," said Smith. "Im a big, strong power winger; Im going to get in the corners and Im going to mess it up down there." In something of a mild surprise, the Flames took the no. 2-ranked goalie, Mason McDonald of the QMJHLs Charlottetown Islanders, with the 34th overall pick, passing up no. 1-ranked Thatcher Demko. "Lot of debate on it with the guys for the last few weeks," said Treliving. "Ultimately our goalie list had Mason at the top. Our guys liked this guy, he was there, we made the pick." The six-foot-two, 170-pound Halifax native began the 2013-2014 season with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. A midseason trade moved him to Charlottetown where he finished the season with a combined eight wins, posting a 3.44 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. "We knew if we didnt take him there that we didnt have a chance to get him," said Treliving. Amateur scout Tom Webster, whos retiring after this draft, got a standing ovation before announcing the Flames final pick at no. 184. "He was emotional," said Treliving. "Thats the first time Ive seen a standing ovation on the floor for somebody. It shows the impact hes had to a lot of people out there." Cheap Air Max Nz Clearance . Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Bosh scored 34 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 104-90 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday and center Hassan Whiteside added career highs of 23 points and 16 rebounds. Dwyane Wade scored 17 with 10 assists for the Heat, who have won two of three on the heels of a four-game losing streak. Blake Griffin had 26 points and Chris Paul scored 23 with nine assists for the Clippers, who finished a 6-3 homestand. The Heat took the lead for good on Whitesides dunk near the end of the first quarter, which sparked a 15-2 run. The 7-foot center was signed by the Heat in November and was recalled from the NBA Development League last month. The former second-round draft pick has appeared in 12 games for the Heat after sitting out the past two seasons. He scored 12 of his 23 points in the first quarter, six on alley-oop dunks, to help pull the Heat out of a 13-point hole. Hassan had a terrific game, said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. His confidence is rising. Hes putting in the time. Whiteside said he played with a chip on my shoulder because the Clippers had turned down a chance to watch him play while he was out of the NBA. (Clippers coach) Doc (Rivers) said no when I asked to get a workout here, Whiteside said. Its a blessing that Im here from everything that Ive been through. Miami played for the first time since losing in Portland on Thursday while the Clippers were on short rest following a win over Dallas on Saturday afternoon. After trailing 19-6 in the first quarter, the Heat went on a 13-0 run to tie the score. Later, they led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter and 15 in the third. I thought we came out with pretty good energy to start the game, said Rivers. After that our energy went way down and we never could get it back. The Clippers were just 12 of 54 from the field over the last three quarters. Game Notes J.J. Redick had 14 points for Los Angeles and Luol Deng scored 10 for the Heat ... Vettel, who is aiming for his fifth-straight drivers championship, was brought down to earth at a rainy Albert Park street circuit, finishing well off the pace of pole sitter Lewis Hamilton and his new Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The German described the handling of his car as "horrible" during pre-qualifying practice, and things only got worse in qualifying "Once it started to rain, I was struggling with drivability ... it made life pretty difficult," Vettel said. Though disappointed with his own poor grid position, Vettel was buoyeed by Ricciardos performance, which indicated Red Bull was not far off the pace of the front-running Mercedes despite a trouble-strewn preseason in which the team suffered an array of problems with the new V6 turbo hybrid engine.dddddddddddd "There is performance in the car and that is the important thing," Vettel said. "We have a quick car and we just need to make it robust and reliable, but thats better than having a robust and reliable car and trying to make that quick." Vettel was at a loss to explain why Ricciardos car was apparently so much easier to drive. "There was not supposed to be a difference between the cars so today was not too happy on my side and we need to understand that, but fortunately it worked for him, so at least we have one car where it belongs." KVITFJELL, Norway -- Erik Guay has never been a fan of skiing with pain but is showing he can adapt and overcome. The native of Mont-Tremblant, Que., captured a World Cup downhill event Saturday, his second this year and fifth career victory on the circuit. And it came on one of his favourite courses as two of his victories and four of his 22 podium finishes have come at Kvitfjell, where theres a super-G scheduled for Sunday. "There are a lot of similarities (between Norway and Quebec)," Guay said during a conference call. "When I left Quebec it was raining and warm and thats pretty much exactly what its here but it can easily be -30 C, again, a lot like Quebec. "I feel comfortable when I come here." Guay finished fourth in a downhill event Friday. The impressive showings came following a respectable 10th-place effort in the downhill at the Sochi Games. But Guay said he battled knee issues in Russia. He had knee surgery in the summer and claimed a World Cup downhill in Val Gardena, Italy, in December but didnt feel anywhere near 100 per cent in Sochi. "It (knee) affected me a lot," he said. "I have a hard time skiing through pain, I have a hard time really finding that courage, that determination to fight through it and push on the ski. "I was trying not to mention it too much in the media because I wanted to put it out of my head completely and sort of pretend and focus that it wasnt even there. You definitely have that on the brain and it was affecting me because I couldnt do a proper preparation for the Games." However, Guay said hes working on improving his mental ability to deal with injury much like teammate Jan Hudec of Calgary, who has overcome numerous ailments to succeed on the world scene. "The ideal situation is to not have that pain and I plan to deal with it in the off-season," Guay said. "Right now Im trying to work through it and I think its an important thing. "If I look at a guy like Jan Hudec, probably one of his biggest strengths is that strength and character he shows when he has those injuries. I know he skiis in a lot of pain so I like to watch those circumstances and try to emulate them. Its not always easy for me. I think when I dont feel 100 per cent its tough for me to go out and attack it but id like to think its getting better." Guay, 32, finished ahead of Frenchman Johan Clarey and Olympic champion Matthias Mayer of Austria. American Travis Ganong, who was third Friday, narrowly missed out on another podium, finishing 0.62 seconds back in fourth. Bode Miller, a bronze medallist in the super-G at the Sochi Olympics, was eighth. Conditions were overcast and a little foggy but unlike Fridays downhill the rain stayed away. Guay had a time of one minute 22.17 seconds, finishing 0.35 seconds ahead of Clarey -- who secured a third career podium. "Its difficult conditions, soft snow. I think you need a really well-balanced touch," Guay said. "If youre too aggressive or leaning in a little bit, its easy to lose (time)." Jeffrey Frisch of Mont-Tremblant finished 17th while Manuel Osborne-Paradis of North Vancouver, B.C., was 21st. Benjamin Thomsen of Invermere, B.C., was 43rd, finishing one spot ahead of Hudec. Other Canadians included: Conrad Pridy of Whistler, B.C., (50th), Torontos Dustin Cook (59th) and Morgan Pridy of Whistler (60th). Meanwhile, it was the best result of Clareys career. "It shows anything can happen, even late on. Better late than never," Clarey said. "Im not hugely confident at the moment and the Olympics were difficult for me to cope with mentally." Clarey had pondered retirement after the Sochi Games, where he didnt finish the downhill and was 19th in super-G. "This changes my ideas a little bit from a psychological point of view," he said. "Even though my knees still pretty banged up." Despite already having an Olympic gold medal, the 23-year-old Mayer clinched his first career podium in World Cup downhill and only his third overall. "I had a lot of things to do, with celebrating the Olympic victory back home. I hadnt much time for me to be prepared," Mayer said. "I can be happy with this result. Its very difficult to be fast here, with the soft snow its not the best conditions." Ganong finished fifth in the downhill at the Sochi Olympics. "I really thought I could (win), so I pushed a little harder and had a couple mistakes. I was able to make up a lot of time on the bottom and salvage fourth place," he said. "Its really fun skiing right now. Im having a good time and the results are coming." Olympic super-G champion Kjetil Jansrud of Norway, who tied for the win Friday with Austrian Georg Streitberger, placed fifth. "I made a couple of mistakes which I didnt think I would make," Jansrud said. "Fell on my inside ski a couple of times, I had to support myself on my hand." Overall World Cup leader Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway was tied for sixth with Switzerlands Silvan Zurbriggen. Nike Air Max Nz Outlet . Bergeron got behind Pittsburgh defenseman Simon Despres and redirected Milan Lucics shot from the point. After a lengthy review to determine if the puck was hit by a high stick, Bergeron was ruled to have deflected the puck in legally. I was pretty confident that it was below the crossbar, Bergeron said of his goal. Tuukka Rask made 37 saves for the Bruins, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Each defeat during the skid came after regulation. We are just trying to get our game where it should be, said Rask. It was a great way to grind it out. Evgeni Malkin had a goal and one assist and Marc-Andre Fleury made 21 saves for Pittsburgh, which has dropped six of eight. I think we played hard, Malkin said. Just not enough to win. Malkin set up Beau Bennett for the games first goal. It looked as though Malkin was going to circle the net with the puck.dddddddddddd Rask moved to his right, following Malkin, who managed to slip the puck out the other side. Bennett collected the pass and quickly fired a shot past a surprised Rask 3:37 into the game. The Bruins tied it on Zdeno Charas blast from the left point with 2:03 remaining in the opening period. Pittsburgh thought it had regained the lead at 3:28 of the second period, but Craig Adams tally was waved off because contact had been made with Rask. Boston moved ahead when Bergeron jumped on a loose puck in the slot and beat Fleury with 4:23 left in the second. Malkin tied it up at 2-2 when he ripped a slap shot over Rasks left shoulder 14 seconds into the third period. LONDON - Charlie Austin scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute as Queens Park Rangers came from a goal behind to earn a 3-2 victory over Leicester on Saturday and push the visitors into last place in the Premier League. In an entertaining back-and-forth game, Esteban Cambiasso put Leicester ahead in just the fourth minute. But Wes Morgan turned a cross into his own goal in the 38th and Leroy Fer put the hosts ahead when he hammered in a rebound on the stroke of halftime for his first goal for QPR.Cambiasso helped set up the equalizer when he fed Marc Albrighton, whose shot was blocked but fell to Jeffrey Schlupp, who fired in a shot from 25 yards in the 68th.Austin then headed in the winner from a rebound after a corner. A message to the NBA champions? "Its a message to the league," Pierce said. The Brooklyn Nets showed the defensive toughness Pierce said will be their identity, smothering the Miami Heat 86-62 on Thursday night after retiring coach Jason Kidds number. Brook Lopez scored 14 points for the Nets on a night that peaked with the pregame. Kidds No. 5 was lifted to the Barclays Center rafters during a ceremony a few minutes before the tip, honouring him for leading the franchise to its greatest NBA success. The game itself could have used the jolt Kidd provided when the Nets acquired him in 2001. Except for a few James highlights, it was typical exhibition play, with starters resting and subs misfiring for much of the night. But theres already a hint this could become a rivalry when the games do count, as Miami-Boston was before the Celtics traded Pierce and Garnett to Brooklyn. A day earlier, James noted that those two shouldnt have been so hard on Ray Allen when he opted to leave the Celtics for the Heat, since Pierce and Garnett ended up leaving themselves -- though Allen was a free agent and the pair was traded. "Tell LeBron worry about Miami," Garnett said when asked about James comments. "He has nothing to do with Celtic business." James and Chris Bosh each finished with 16 points for the Heat, who shot 32 per cent and did next to nothing in the 20 minutes James wasnt on the floor. "Weve got so many guyss out, were just trying to get better and not waste an opportunity to get better," James said.dddddddddddd"I think we did that at phases. Obviously, we dont have all our guys playing, but when guys were in the game, they played, worked hard." The Nets believe their acquisition of Pierce and Garnett, along with a number of other moves, has given them a roster that can compete with the Heat in the Eastern Conference. All that could really be told from this game was that the Nets appear to have a better back end of their bench. Miami managed just 12 points in the second quarter, when it went mostly with reserves and fell behind 44-28. Dwyane Wade sat out for the Heat and Deron Williams is still sidelined by a sprained ankle for the Nets, but the exhibition at times had a playoff feel to it thanks to the rivalry among some of the veterans. James was dribbling quickly up the floor in the first quarter and Pierce simply threw his shoulder into James for a foul that stopped the fast break. Garnett played only 10 minutes. Kidd led the Nets to consecutive NBA Finals as a player and became the sixth member of the franchise to have his number retired. A few former teammates attended the ceremony, while taped messages from Kenyon Martin, Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson were shown during breaks in the game. Key reserves Allen and Chris Andersen also sat out for the Heat, while the Nets remained without Jason Terry and Andrei Kirilenko from their bench. The teams will meet again in Brooklyn on Nov. 1 in the Nets home opener. LUCERNE, Switzerland - Star forward Xherdan Shaqiri scored a rare right-footed goal to help Switzerland beat Peru 2-0 in its final World Cup warm-up match on Tuesday. The Bayern Munich winger struck in the 84th minute, finishing smartly after taking a long through pass in his stride. Switzerland right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner headed the opening goal in the 78th from left-back Ricardo Rodriguezs cross. The slow-starting Swiss played their best football near the end, following the same pattern as their 1-0 win against Jamaica last Friday. Coach Ottmar Hitzfelds team leaves for Brazil on Friday with just one loss in 18 matches over the past two years. That was a 2-1 defeat against World Cup-bound South Korea last November. Switzerland opens its Group E campaign against Ecuador on June 15 in Brasilia. It then plays France in Salvador and Honduras in Manaus. In a testy first half, Peru pair Luis Ramirez and Paolo Hurtado were both booked after incidents with Swiss captain Gokhan Inler. Hurtado threatened in the 41st, exploiting a big hole in the Swiss defence to fire a curling shot that goalkeeper Diego Benaglio dived to tip beyond his left-hand post. Shaqiri was the only one of Hitzfelds likely World Cup starting 11 who began on the bench Tuesday, and his introduction in the 64th was key to changing the game. His sweeping pass found Rodriguez, whose floated ball into the goalmouth found Lichtsteiner rising to meet it with a header high into the top-right corner. Six minutes later, Inlers long pass released Shaqiri to poke a shot through the legs of goalkeeper George Forsyth. Jordan 4 For Sale Nz . PITTSBURGH -- A single strike from falling two games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates in the race for the top spot in the National League wild-card race, the Cincinnati Reds needed a break. Jordy Mercer provided one. The surging Reds took care of the rest. A wild throw by the Pittsburgh shortstop with two outs in the ninth inning opened the door for a three-run rally off Pirates closer Mark Melancon that tied the game. Joey Vottos home run off Kyle Farnsworth an inning later won it as the Reds pulled off an improbable 6-5 victory to move into a tie with the Pirates. Both teams are two games behind St. Louis for the lead in the NL Central. "Thats really uncommon, really rare, and for us to have done that in a game like this, against this squad, against that pitcher, that makes it even more rare and pretty impressive," Votto said. "Guys just strung together a bunch of tough at-bats." Ones that came after Mercer couldnt quite handle a slow grounder by Todd Frazier with one on and two outs in the ninth. Mercer charged the ball but couldnt get a grip on it and it ended up in the stands behind first base. "If I make a good throw right there, the game is over and all the stuff that happened never happens," Mercer said. "It was tough. We played a great game, everybody played a great game and to have it happen like that, its just a bad throw." And the Pirates quickly unraveled. Zach Cozart singled after Mercers error to put runners on the corners. Cincinnati rookie base-stealing specialist Billy Hamilton pinch ran for Cozart and promptly swiped second then raced home when Devin Mesoraco ended a nine-pitch duel with Melancon by sending a sharp grounder that bounced off third baseman Pedro Alvarez and rolled onto the grass in shallow left field. "I really just went up there and just thought about battling ..." Mesoraco said. "That was it. That was my only goal, just go up there, battle, battle, and hopefully leave one out over the plate that I could put a half-decent swing on and hopefully find a hole." Melancon has been dominant since taking over the closers role from Jason Grilli in July, but blew his second save in three days. San Diego rallied for a 3-2 win on Wednesday. This one, however, will almost certainly be more difficult to overcome. "Thats a game we should have won and I think the Reds know that too," Melancon said. JJ Hoover (5-5) earned the win for the Reds, who have won four straight. Aroldis Chapman worked the 10th for his 38th save. Farnsworth (1-1) retired Brandon Phillips to start the 10th but left fielder Starling Marte couldnt quite grab Vottos shot down the line. "We hadnt come back in a long time, and we hadnt come back for a long time on the road," Cincinnati manager Dusty Baker said. Pittsburgh began the week 74-2 when leading after eight innings, but has now squandered ninth-inning leads twice in three nights. "Who said it was going to be easy?" manager Clint Hurdle said. "Who said it was going to be easy? Weve been very good winning as a team, losing as a team ... weve got to find a way to finish things off." The Pirates appeared firmly in control through eight innings. Francisco Liriano overwhelmed the Reds, allowing two runs on three hits, walking three and striking out seven. The left-hander needed only 94 pitches to record 24 outs, but told Hurdle he was done when he entered the dugout after striking out Brandon Phillips to end the eighth. "He was fantastic," Hurdle said. "He said when he came off he laid it all out there." Ryan Ludwick finished 3 for 5 for the Reds, while Frazier hit his 17th home run. Jose Tabata and Neil Walker hit consecutive homers off Cincinnati starter Mat Latos in the first and Pittsburgh appeared en route to giving itself some breathing room as the franchise pursues its first playoff spot since 1992. PNC Park, typically a ghost town this time of year as the Pirates play out the string, was electric when Pittsburgh took the field. The 21st sellout of the season included Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett and Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma. NOTES: Hurdle was ejected in the eighth for arguing after star Andrew McCutchen was hit by reliever Sam LeCure, who was given a warning by home plate umpire Mark Carlson ... The series continues on Saturday when Pittsburghs A.J. Burnett (8-11, 3.43 ERA) faces Home Bailey (11-10, 3.40). Bailey tossed his first career no-hitter in his previous start at PNC Park last September. MIAMI -- Chris Bosh had another postgame scream. For the Miami Heat, that was outstanding news. LeBron James scored the last of his 32 points on a layup that put Miami up for good with 11.4 seconds left, Bosh capped his 30th birthday by blocking Damian Lillards layup on the final play, and the Heat blew a 17-point fourth-quarter lead before beating the Portland Trail Blazers 93-91 on Monday night. "If you talk it, you back it up," James said. "Thats what its about. We have guys in here that will deliver the words and then go back it up. That was big-time on his part." Bosh ripped into Miami after a loss at New Orleans on Saturday, saying the Heat arent playing with passion, among other colorful sentiments. He screamed again Monday, this time in celebration as time expired. "This games about passion," Bosh said. "As hard as it is during the dog days to muster it up, the spark has to come from somewhere." Wednesday wont be one of those dog days. Miami visits Indiana with a chance to close within one game in the Eastern Conference race. The Pacers lost in Chicago on Monday night. "I miss the Pacers," Bosh said. Bosh finished with 15 points and Chris Andersen had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Miami, which won for just the fifth time in 12 games. Mario Chalmers added 11 points for the Heat. Lillard led the Blazers with 19 points on 3-for-15 shooting. Mo Williams scored 17, Wesley Matthews had 15, Nicolas Batum 11 and Robin Lopez 10 for Portland, which was down 17 with just more than 9 minutes remaining. "I thought I had a pretty good look at it but Chris Bosh made a great play," Lillard said of his final shot. "He met it at the top. He went up and got it. I saw him -- thats why I floated it. I didnt think he would be able to get to it. But he met it at the very top." The Blazers shot 11 for 39 from 3-point range, taking only 35 shots from inside the arc. "Were tired of losing close games, but you cant help it to be proud of the way we competed," Portland coach Terry Stotts said. "It would have been easy to fold things up, but thats not in our DNA." Miami was without Dwyane Wade for the 19th time this season, though this absence wasnt part of the season-long maintenance program designed to help his knees. Wade tweaked an ankle last week in Boston. James was on the court getting shots up for about 15 minutes with less than an hour remaining until tip-off. With his earbuds on, sweat rolling off and surrounded by three ballboys, James worked on step-back jumpers, post moves and free throws, yelling twice at himself during one stretch in which he missed three straight from the line. It was obvious: Hes had it with this Heat slide. And Heat coach Erik Spoelstra wanted the four-time MVP aggressive, so much so that he met him on the way to the bench during a first-half timeout and gave him a two-handed shove. "Just wanted him to continue to attack," Spoelstra said. James took 12 shots in the first quarter, tying his career high for an opening period. He made only four of them, three of those being dunks, and wasnt shy about expressing his frustration after a couple of plays. But he got on his customary roll in time. James made seven of his next eight from the floor, and the Heat turned a six-point deficit in the first half into an 11-point lead in the third. An 11-2 Miami run to end the half -- James had six of those points -- sent the Heat into the locker room up 46-42, and another run opened the third. Miami scored 13 of the first 19 points in the third, with Bosh getting nine and James scoring two before setting up Greg Oden for a dunk that capped the burst and gave the Heat a 59-48 lead. And for Oden, Monday carried extra significance, since he was facing the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2007. The lead was still 11 entering the fourth, and Miami opened the final quarter with a 6-0 run that pushed the lead to 78-61 with 9:15 remaining. It was hardly over, but Bosh and James wound up saving the Heat. NOTES: Chalmers tweaked his right knee and left in the first quarter after taking a misstep along the row of photographers who sit just behind the baseline. ... LaMarcus Aldridge (back) missed his sixth straight game for Portland. Air Max Free Shipping . New Zealand brushed aside England 26-7 to win the event and reclaim top spot in the overall standings. Representatives from Hockey Canada, the Hockey Canada Foundation and Hockey Quebec were on hand Tuesday night at a meeting of the AHM de Lac-Mégantic to make the announcement and presentation. Wholesale Air Max . -- Chris Tillman paid no attention to the Baltimore bullpen as it started to stir in the ninth inning.MUNICH - With a comfortable 2-0 cushion from the first leg, Bayern Munich is looking to finish off Marseille and advance to the Champions League semifinals. The four-time champions have won 12 of their last 13 games at home in the competition, and have also won seven straight as they maintain their push for three trophies. "We want to be one of the four best teams in Europe," said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. "Were in a very, very good position. If we concentrate and play football, we wont run into trouble on Tuesday." Marseille, meanwhile, has lost eight of its last nine games in all competitions. The French side drew the other game in that run and has not won a game since a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan on Feb. 22. But Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes warned it would be a mistake to underestimate the visiting side. "I want to remind everyone that Marseille came from 2-0 down against (Borussia) Dortmund to win 3-2 (during the group stage)," the 66-year-old Heynckes said Monday. "Were taking this game very seriously." Goals from Arjen Robben and the 11th of the competition for Mario Gomez in Marseille leave Bayern ideally placed to take another step toward reaching the final in its stadium on May 19. "We can be very satisfied," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after his side had "thrown the door to the semifinals wide open." Its a remarkable turnaround for a club that appeared to be in crisis a month ago when a 2-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen left it seven points behind Bundesliga leader Dortmund, while Champions League ambitions were on hold after a 1-0 defeat at FC Basel in the first leg of their round of 16 tie. Bayern bounced back from the Leverkusen defeat with 20 goals in three games, including seven against Basel in the return leg as the German side posted the biggest winning margin in a knockout game of the Champions League. Saturdays 1-0 win at Nuremberg in the 184th Bavarian derby cut the gap with Dortmund to three points, and Bayern will also face the Bundesliga leader in the German Cup final on May 12. Marseille will take some heart from its 3-2 win in Dortmund. Its weekeend game against French league leader Montpellier was postponed to allow it to prepare for what would be a mammoth upset.dddddddddddd "We have a chance, but its minuscule," admitted Marseille coach Didier Deschamps, who lifted the Champions League trophy after the French sides previous game in Munich -- a 1-0 win over AC Milan in the 1993 final. "We will do our best to get the best possible result, knowing that Bayern are very good at home." Marseille is languishing in ninth place in the French league. Adding to its problems, the teams flight to Munich was delayed six hours because of a strike in Marseille. The French side will need goals to qualify and will be looking to Ghana winger Andre Ayew and France forward Loic Remy -- who both scored in Dortmund -- to provide them. Remy is the clubs top scorer in the league with 10 goals while Ayew has seven, but former Marseille and Bayern striker Jean-Pierre Papin warned against an over-dependence on them. "(Remys) only just coming back from injury and needs to get his rhythm back. Ayew isnt 100 per cent either because of his shoulder problems," he told Marseilles website. Papin sees little chance of an upset. "An upset is always possible, but honestly, I think its going to be tough. Bayern are a very experienced team, comprised exclusively of internationals," Papin said. Marseille will welcome back goalkeeper Steve Mandanda from suspension, while Bayern picked up five yellow cards in the first leg, including one for Bastian Schweinsteiger which rules him out on Tuesday. Alou Diarra is suspended for the visitors. "A lot of crazy things happen in football," said Gomez. "But of course well to try to stick to our style of play, to win." The winner will likely face Real Madrid in the semifinal. The Spanish league leader holds a 3-0 cushion over unheralded Cypriot team APOEL Nicosia on the other side of the draw. "We cant already think were playing against Madrid, no, no," warned Franck Ribery, who played two seasons for Marseille before his transfer to Bayern in 2007. "The job isnt done yet."
